How to Wash Walls Before Painting with TSP
Paint sticks best to clean walls. B-Brite TSP Cleaner is a heavy-duty trisodium phosphate powder that cuts grease and grime, so walls and ceilings are ready for paint.
What you need
- B-Brite TSP Cleaner (454 g / 1 lb canister)
- A bucket and warm water
- A sponge or scrub brush
- Clean water and a cloth for rinsing
- Gloves and eye protection
Steps
- Mix: dissolve 100 g (3.5 oz) of TSP Cleaner in 4 L (about 1 US gal) of warm water.
- Scrub the wall or ceiling with the solution.
- Rinse with clean water.
- Let it dry completely before painting.
Cleaning brushes
Dissolve 50 g (1.75 oz) in 4 L of warm water. Soak the brushes, then rinse well.
How far one canister goes
One 454 g canister makes up to 45 L (11 US gal) of cleaning solution.
Safety
Caution: irritant. TSP may irritate eyes and skin. Do not get it in eyes, on skin or on clothing. Wear gloves and eye protection. Do not mix with other chemicals. Keep out of reach of children.
First aid: contains trisodium phosphate. If swallowed, call a Poison Control Centre or doctor immediately. Do not induce vomiting. If in eyes, rinse with water for 15 minutes.
